Count Nate Hawkins among the visitors that left impressed with recent unofficial visits to Texas A&M.

The Katy-Seven Lakes linebacker was on campus with defensive tackle teammate and fellow 2020 prospect Tiago Sumbo last week. Hawkins is still awaiting his first FBS offer, but should the Aggies get involved at any point with his recruitment, he’ll know what awaits him in College Station.

“It was really really nice from the point that I stepped on campus,” he said. “I saw all the facilities - it was top level looking at everything, everyone was friendly and open to each other. I would say that was one of the best visits.”

Hawkins and Sumbo were treated to the opportunity to see how the defense prepares in meetings and the relationship defensive coordinator Mike Elko works his unit. He was informed that this spring, Seven Lakes would be a certain stop for the Aggies staff as they make the rounds to check on prospects.

This weekend, Hawkins had tentative plans to be in Tucson for Arizona’s spring game as he looks to continue moving his recruitment forward. He added that visits to Baylor, Texas Southern, SMU, and Yale are all potentially on the agenda as well in the coming weeks but all will have a high bar to match after his visit to Aggieland.

“I got to be in the film room for the defensive install and you could tell the guys knew the system,” Hawkins said. “I like the coaches energy, the way they interact with the players and how they interacted back. It was nice; if they offered me I would be ready.”
