Power Rankings: Chick-Fil-A's Sauces

As The Other 98’s resident food expert and hot take holder, I took it upon myself to answer the age-old question, which one of Chick-Fil-A’s legendary dipping sauces is truly the best. In order to best serve the faithful readers of my content, I took it upon myself to make the arduous journey over to my local CFA (about .5 miles) and return with a tray of nuggets and each of the seven sauces created for dipping along with one special sauce that doesn’t come in a dipping container. This was a tall task to carry out ($15 is a lot of money, I don’t care that I regularly double that when testing new barbecue joints) but I felt it necessary to give each sauce a fair shake. Now, without further delay, I give you the power ranking of Chick-Fil-A’s sauces.

8. Zesty Buffalo Sauce

I’m a huge buffalo sauce guy but this disappointed me greatly. The actual Buffalo taste didn’t kick in until late in the bite which almost made it feel like an aftertaste. Also, the sauce smelled a bit off when I tried it. I’m not sure what they used to flavor this one but if I ever decided I want Buffalo sauce with my CFA nugs, I’ll be getting the sauce from somewhere besides Chick-Fil-A.

7. Garlic and Herb Ranch

As many of you probably know by now, I am biased against ranch. I’m not a fan of most kinds of ranch though I do make an exception for the creamy jalapeno dip of Chuy’s and the jalapeno ranch of Chiloso in my hometown of Rockwall. With that being said, I didn’t hate this ranch. The garlic killed some of the ranch flavoring which was a pleasant surprise for me. At the end of the day though, it’s still ranch.

6. Honey Mustard Sauce

For the second sauce in a row, my inherent bias is coming in here. I am not a mustard guy, though I don’t hate honey mustard. CFA’s honey mustard, however, is a little bit too mustardy for me. The sweetness of the honey was enough to move it ahead of the ranch but with a top five sauce group like CFA has, I wouldn’t go out of my way to get it again.

5. Barbecue Sauce

I guess we can consider this a barbecue sauce but it’s a little too sweet for me. I will absolutely still use this if they are out of the choices ranked ahead of it but I think I liked the barbecue sauce better in it’s previous smokier form. With that being said, it beats most other fast food “barbecue sauces”.

4. Sweet and Spicy Sriracha Sauce

I didn’t expect a lot out of this one considering I’m not a huge supporter of the sriracha sauces that I’ve had elsewhere. This sauce was a pleasant surprise. Nothing at CFA with spicy in the name packs a huge kick but this had a good bite to it comparatively and the sweetness contrasted well with it. I will be adding this one to the rotation in the future.

3. Polynesian Sauce

I can’t begin to describe the flavor of CFA’s Polynesian Sauce accurately but it is a sweet bit of heaven that is absolutely magical. The problem for me is it might be a little bit too sweet. I do like the Polynesian sauce a lot but I also get tired of it if I eat too much in one sitting. It pairs well with the nuggets, however.

2. Chick-Fil-A Sauce

For the sake of transparency, I had it drilled into my mind before testing today that this sauce was the king of CFA’s sauces and that there was no way any other sauce was going to displace this delicious condiment on the top spot of the list. I was wrong about that but Chick-Fil-A’s signature sauce still pairs just as well with the nuggets as ever.

1. Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce

Let me start by saying that I’m upset at myself for taking this long to try this sauce as I now know the taste of true love. I would also like to say that I am incredibly disappointed that CFA does not offer this sauce in a dipping container. For those of you who have not experienced the glory of CFA’s Honey Roasted BBQ Sauce, it takes CFA’s signature sauce and kicks it up a few notches on the wonderful taste scale. It’s not really a barbecue sauce but I’m willing to overlook that small fact as it tastes how I imagine happiness would. Long live the new king of CFA’s sauces.

There you have it, folks. If you feel like your sauce of choice was wronged, feel free to let me know in the comments. As always, we appreciate you reading, and it was my pleasure to serve you (hopefully CFA doesn’t have that phrase trademarked) by reviewing these wonderful sauces.
