The Mailbag: Volume 24
Last week’s edition of the Mailbag is right here:
When putting shoes on is it shoe, shoe, tie, tie or shoe, tie, shoe, tie?
I’m a big shoe, shoe, tie, tie guy. I couldn’t tell you why I choose to do it in that order but I do. I don’t think there are necessarily any wrong answers other than tying your shoe before putting it on.
Is a clothes iron an antiquated small appliance in the millennial world or is there still value in having one?
I’ll be honest, I don’t think I have any idea how to use a clothes iron. I tried to one time and I’m pretty sure I burned my clothes. I wouldn’t say it doesn’t have any value but I have a feeling a lot of folks have forgotten how to use one. For wrinkled clothes during travel, I usually just use the old hot shower trick. So is a clothes iron antiquated? Probably. However, I still think it has value if you can use it.
Have you ever been ghosted by ladies? If so tell us all the backstory.
If there is anyone out there who hasn’t been ghosted by someone at some point in their lives, I have yet to meet them. As for myself being ghosted by ladies, I know that generally speaking, I brought it on myself either through sheer idiocy or a general inability to realize what was happening at the time. This is why I tell people to never ask me for relationship advice.
Who is your least favorite current professional athlete?
I’m going to take out the genuinely evil folks out there and focus on the people who are just extremely annoying in the realm of sports for one reason or another. It has to be Colby Covington. For the uninitiated, Covington is the biggest goober in the world of MMA right now. He’s done his best to adopt a Chael Sonnen-esque schtick but he’s not got the gift of gab to pull it off and he just comes across as a try hard when he attempts to trash talk. I understand that fighters have to attempt to sell fights, but Covington isn’t a natural talker like a Chael Sonnen or a Conor McGregor, nor does he have an exciting style. He’s a gifted wrestler but the sooner I see him get knocked out the better.
Where is the coolest place you’ve ever been?
I’ve been a lot of awesome places in my life. It’s hard to pick just one. Kyle Field packed with over 100,000 is an experience as are some of the other places in the SEC. When I was in high school I went on a cruise that took me to Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and Cozumel and each place was fantastic. A couple of years back I flew up to Chicago to meet my buddy on a road trip from New London, Connecticut to Seattle (he had graduated from the Coast Guard Academy and was headed to where he was going to be stationed) and let me tell you, there is some beautiful country up there. Along the way, we stopped at the Badlands National Park, Mount Rushmore, the Grand Tetons, and of course, Yellowstone. This was my second time visiting the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone and that part of Wyoming easily has to be my favorite place in the world. If you can find a spot that isn’t too overcrowded by tourists, there’s nothing else I’ve ever seen that compares to it.
